I am trying to sort out my WIN 98 installation on a PCCHIPS M560 M/B with 10GHD and 80MB RAM. Problem - cannot get past writing system files to HD (blue screen) as I get variuos GPF errors eg.g setupx.dll @004:5526, krnl.386.exe@0001:0AFF ...
Updated BIOS, but withoutout success. Previously ran W98, bu decided to install after deveoping losts of GPF errors when running iexplorer, and system lock ups. Does this sound like an IDE hardware error ? HD is fine, as is memory.

The problems you're describing could be caused by a number of hardware problems. Try running a good hardware diagnostic program to rule out the CPU, and/or cache. You said the HDD and memory is ok, so I would suspect either the IDE controller or possibly the CD-ROM drive (if you're installing from a CD). I've had similar problems where I could not install from the CD, but it worked okay over a network.
So - try a different CD drive, and failing that, do yourself a favour and get a decent motherboard.
One way to avoid installing it from CD is to copy over the win98 folder from the cd to the hard drive and install from there
actually paul, that would sort of defeat the purpose...if the cdrom drive IS flaky, then he runs the risk of corrupting the setup files on the way over from cd to hard drive.
have used lots of pcchip boards, have you had the ram tested with a REAL tester, and is your cd disk scratched, but if you were having problems before you wiped, and reusing the ram and harddrive you could be fighting a hardware problem, you can only swap out until you find problem
