Does any body know what would cause the kernel processor to run at 100% even if only a couple of apps are open?

monitoring cpu utilization is fairly accurate.
What programs are running in the background?
I have a proggie that monitors what threads are currently running, and how much of the processor they are using, it also allows you to throttle them and kill them. E-mail [email protected] if ya want a copy
