No network logon window
I am setting up a Windows peer-to-peer network. On one of the machines (a Packard Bell...I know, I know...). After installing the network client (for MS networks)and TCP/IP protocol AND assiging a computer name and domain, I do not receive the network log-on window. I have installed/uninstalled the clients, NIC card, protocols and still get no sign on...help!
Also, what is the story with NetBEUI? An effortless network? I can't get it to work of find anything about troubleshooting or setting up (other than "install the protocol"). PLEASE HELP...yes, I'm going to lose it! : ) Thanks.

Netbeui has no configuration. You install it, the client, and reboot. That's about it. For a basic file and print sharing network that's small, it works nicely. On tcp/ip though, you will need to assign ip address and subnet mask to the machines... In the network control panel, check the primary network logon. Make sure it says Client for microsoft networks...

I thought NetBEUI was that easy. However, I must be missing something. I prefer TCP/IP.
Relative to the logon, I have checked EVERYTHING including making sure the Primary Logon Network is Client for Microsoft Networks.
I have even reloaded Windows 98 and started from scratch.

Search your registry and make sure the autologon is not set to 00.

Will do...if it is set to 00, do I change the value (to 01) or delete the string?

I checked the Microsoft Knowledge Base using "registry" and "autologon". The first article it pulled looks like my solution. Thanks for your suggestions!

I've had this where the network card was disabled in all profiles in system - device settings.

My fix, per the MS Knowledge Base, was to delete the AutoLogon key. It was set to "00".
