Dial up is FASTER for games than wireless. I made the mistake of getting wireless when I was in New Mexico and it is a gamer's worst nightmare. The problem is this:
When you request a file, you send a packet out and you get a response back(ping time). Due to the nature of wireless these times can be excessive for gaming. The actual speed of a DL will be 512 so once the DL is going, it will be fast. It is the request time that will kill you. Mine was like a 500ms ping. Completely unplayable.

Depends what you call wireless... you mean a Sat link? Sat link isnt crash hot for gaming, but wireless links dont have any real problems. The last company I worked for (largest ISP in the WA region) provided wireless access to quite a few places, and basically, it was just a wireless hookup straight to the ISP. No lag, quick as a cut cat.
All depends on the ISP though really, and if you are talking about Satellite.

My bad.....I was refering to satellite. Not a WAN or anything along those lines. I'm not talking about pc@home where you still have to have a local ISP. This was 384k down and 78k up $700 installation/equipment POS.

heh.. you people would die if you had to rely on a net connection down under.. broadband across the whole country? Balls, try having broadband coverage in around 10% of the heavily populated areas, and then try paying stupidly high fees, with really low download limits, and draconian levels of service..

Check out dslreport.com Maybe with some luck their are other types of broadband offered.

What kind of wireless? Is it something like Sprints wireless broadband? Sat is the WORST for gaming because of, as stated above, the bad ping time. But as far as I know wireless (such as the sprint system) it is very good.
