GPF in Dial up Networking

I just installed a new Actiontec 56K PCI Pro modem into a K6-2/400 at a customers request. There is 128MB memory, Windows 98 (first edition), Motherboard is DFI or something like that.

The modem installed fine, but every time I try to create a new Dial Up Networking connection, I get "RUNDLL32 caused a General Protection Fault in User.exe at 000c:00003ebb. I've uninstalled DUN and re-installed it about a hundred times. I tried installing version 1.4, but same thing every time. I uninstalled every piece of software in the machine. Removed and re-installed all of the networking components. Any suggestions?

The first one I had already seen. The second one didn't help with my problem, but it looks like a great reference I didn't know about. I bookmarked it. I think I found the problem though. I ran msconfig and deselected everything to reboot clean, still didn't work, I un-installed everything, still didn't work. Finally I did what I should have done first. I took the modem back out. Dial-up-networking worked fine. Looks like I'll try a different brand of modem!
