We had a problem today, with one of our users dialing in from home. Seems when they connected from home, the server assigned their computer a IP# ... which just happened to be one that was already taken by the NT4 WS. Why would this happen? It, of course, knocked the NT 4 WS off the LAN...
Its rather entertaining that I have posted two questions that cannot (apparently) be answered.
Ah well.
If you have more than one DHCP server, it's possible that the IP ranges on them overlap.
Alternatively, the dial in client is set up with a static IP address and using SLIP.
I find this to work much better:
Set up RAS and VPN clients to receive an IP address on a seperate subnet and configure your server to route between the two subnets. The only issue this brings up, is if the remote user is also a local user (i.e. a laptop on the road) (s)he will have to enter a ROUTE command to reroute packets for the home network thru the RAS/VPN connection. Not a big deal, and can be handled in a batch file.
