Great Remote control program

Believe it or not, Microsoft has included a great remote control program on their machines.

Netmeeting.

Netmeeting I say! You can run netmeeting, configure it for remote desktop sharing and you are ready to go! We use this on W2k boxes, and all we have to do is connect with a hostname or IP address, type in the administrator login and we can control the machines. We can even reboot the machines, and not have to worry with making sure that they did it successfully. We can even see the login box after they restart.

As for the XP machines, the remote desktop connection tool is also a life and time saver (calorie too! Dont have to get up to walk to a machine :D )

So curious, does anyone else use this tool or not?

I use it to remote control an NT server. works good, and it restricts itself to only domain admins allowed to control the box remotely.

I tried using remote desktop in XP and it said that I didn't have Terminal Services installed. Something else to figure out I guess. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Netmeeting works for me too, saves me some long trips. The only thing I can't do remotely is diagnose obscure sound/MIDI issues for musicians as Netmeeting ties up the sound card. Other than that, if it doesn't need a screwdriver, I can do it long distance!

I prefer romote desktop for XP boxes and TS for servers.

For all others I use <a href="http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/" target="_blank">VNC</a>.

What's nice about <a href="http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/" target="_blank">VNC</a> is that it has servers and clients for most OSes. So you can Remote control an XWindows session on your Linux server with your Windows desktop. The only disadvantage is that it does NOT use integrated Windows Security, so it is the same password for all users to use it...

I support about 900 desktops in 3 cities and I use Netmeeting to fix little problems that I would not have the time or patience to walk the user through. Plus it makes you look really cool to the users when you take over their PC.

lol, I remember when I was first getting my wits about me w/ remote networking....I got a kick out of it when I saw a computer being remote controlled....heh heh...

Ya...that was kinda useless...but *shrugs*...oh well.

We use VNC on all our desktops and servers.

What do you guys think?? Is is the same as things like PCAnywere or NetOp?
