I was surfing through Microsoft's KB today, and happened across Article Q134841. I suggest all tech's read it..
And then tell me WHY in the name of everything holy, they wasted brain cells writing this article....
And then tell me why people would even think that was a problem...

Believe it or not, I have had people complain about that very thing! I try explaining to them that it is by design, and they insist that there is something wrong with their computer.
We also had a woman who said that if her computer counts the RAM more than once when she firsts turns it on, then there MUST be something wrong with the RAM.
The other guy who used to work here came across this wonderful little troubleshooting from Intel's site:
"System hangs may occur infrequently, when a user shuts-down a system under Windows 98 or 2000. This problem does not occur when the system is left on."
Hmmm...I NEVER have shutdown problems when I don't shut down my computer. I seem to only have shutdown problems when I shut my computer down! LOL!

Don't laugh, I have a similar problem. My computer seems to turn on when I press the power button. I wish MS would write a KB article with a fix or workaround for this, because it's really driving me nuts!

Seriously -- ACPI has came in handy on this account for one thing - the boy I mentor's cousin has a very bad habit of just hitting the power switch to shut down -- I set the unit to require a 4 sec hold, so now the kid just puts it to sleep!

And who says MS has no sense of humor? Does anyone have any more of these? I want to post them for my users - got to edumacate 'em somehow! (And why are we the only other profession to call our clients 'users'?)
