lets try unscrewing it first
Just finished fixing up a ladies computer. Seems she was getting errors whenever she clicked on something on the desk top. So she brings it in also holding the back plate of the machine. Well it hits my bench and the first thing I do is look in the ziplock bag containing the back plate, and the vga connector off the motherboard. Seems that her husband had neglected to loosen the thumbscrews on the monitor cable when he was trying to unhook all the cables from the back of the machine. Out of frustration he yanked on the monitor cable so hard that it ripped the connector off the motherboard, knocking the backing plate out with it.
Suprisingly enough she was very calm when I told her the price of a new motherboard with labour (810 chipset, everything on-board). And ro top it all off, her origional problem was caused by some desktop security software she had installed to keep her kids from messing around with things.
God I love my job...somedays
