AOL and lol
I get a call from a client that after he upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP, he can't get into some of the online gambling site he visits daily. I check out the site and tell him to go to Microsoft and download some IE plug-in and he'll be fine. He has trouble with this (Even with direct links to the downloads). So I downloaded the stuff he needed, burned it to a cd and went over.
I turn on his machine and see 4 or 5 various AOL icons on the desktop. Aol 5.0, Aol 7.0, Aol Install 7.0...etc. I don't give it too much thought. (The guys is sort of slow in computer department) I install the app and plug-in he needs, reboot the machine and ask him to login to his Aol account so I can see if the plug-in fixed his problem.
He clicks on an icon and starts entering his name address, credit card number...etc.
"I thought you already had an Aol account," I say.
"I do, but since I upgraded to Windows XP, it asked me for all my information every time I login to Aol," the guy says. "Can you fix that?"
"How many times did you give them your credit card number?" I ask.
"I don't know, about 20 or so," The guy says, shrugging his shoulders.
I look at the poor bastard and say "You know your going to have $6000 in charges on your credit card from Aol."
Needless to say instead on launching the Aol 7.0 program, this guy was hitting the icon over and over to set up Aol 7.0!

LOL! It's reasons like this that people are afraid of computers!
-
another confused soul sucked into the realm of brainwashing.... :p

He'll be fine as long as he calls to cancel his 20 accounts...seeing as aol gives the first month free.

Well the bad thing is, people need to know where there files go and how to save them.
How to manage files on the hard drive.
When they try people or techs say oh just download it to your desk top.
I can see how this fella got goofed up. I was watching tech tv the othe day and they were telling people to save all there downloaded files into the desk top.. Well start doing that and the whole screen is full of icons and then people start saving everything to it and depend on it tell one day somthing happends.
People should take a class if they have never used a computer. They need to learn how to manage there files. Make a directory on the C drive use that but know where it is and how to get to it through Windows Explorer
