Pet hates

Now im not a hard person to work with and I would say im very tolerant. However there are some thing that really PI$$ me off. Some large but mainly small things. Here are a few.

Getting to a users PC to find they have changed ALL their cursors - ARGGG its a fecking BANANA

Having to remove 4 Albums worth a baby pictures from a PC and monitor before taking it away for repair / move - GRRRRRRRRRR.

Users who dont know what a duster is. I may be IT but my suits are just as expensive as yours.

Users who phone up ask to have there password re-set every 2 days.

Users who choose shutdown NT when I say CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS AND LOGON AS A DIFFERENT USER!!!

Users who fiddle with their PC's by deleting system files, fonts etc etc

Users who say "But I can go down PC World and buy a Laptop. It will be working in 5 minutes". ROFLMAO - Yeah right you've never bought a Compaq Laptop then ;)

There are loads more but at the end of the day they pay my salary and I do like my gadets and nice clothes :)

Couldn't agree more about the PC World bit. I owe that store my existence! If it wasn't for PC World there would be nothing for me to fix!
I would honestly say that 30 -40% of our time is spent rectifying mistakes made by the 'technicians' at their stores. :confused:

PC World!!!!!! Where in the world-d-d-d.. can you find more brainless staff than PC World :) :)

I love going into their as the customer from hell (yes I love pretending to be ignorant towards technology) and asking the simplest of questions to be told something that does not pertain to the question and is nowhere near the answer that they should have given. The 'Techs' (can't really call them that though) in there know about as much as my 13 month old Son does!!!!

That is my biggest Pet Hate, the customer who has been to PC World and they have told them the biggest pile of horse crap ever regarding what system is the best for the customer (and what makes them the most commission), then the customer comes to a PROPER outlet and ges told something completely differnet, but truthful, where do they go?? The big chain store. Why? Because they advertise on TV that their prices are the lowest around. YES lowest around 10 years ago when most of the stuff that they have on the shelves is 10 years old!!!! Try and get discount from them in there?? I used to!!! Only because I knew the Business Centre Manager well, and he used to give me his Staff discounts :) :) :) Sorry, but any outlet that only sells Set-Spec equipment and is not willing to change bits around if the customer wishes should not exist. It's a shame that the customer does not support their local shop rather than the large chain stores, as the local outlets are always better with advice, upgrades, repairs, and make better tea & coffee :). Sorry customer I don't want to hear about how your Packard Bell or E-Machine is still under warranty. If you want me to repair it, then it is double my normal rates because you didn't listen to me in the first place!!!!! Oh and NO I won't touch your I-Mac as I don't like the colour :) :)

Another one of my pet hates, is the outlet that always gets away with pre-installing illegal software on new machines and FAST or BSA not doing anything about it regardless of how many complaints that they have had about them. There are 2 or 3 around my local area that do this, and one of them uses Rebrand off of a JURASSIC Warez CD and leaves it in plain view on the Users Start Menu!!!!! Not to mention the versions of Office 2000 and Win98/ME that are off of a 'Gold'CD that they bought from a 'friend' for £10 or whatever Wareaz CD's cost now. This really pisses me off when a customer says 'I can get the same system with blah blah installed for less from blahdy blah blah', when they really mean 'I will only buy from you if you install illegal software on my machine as I don't want to pay for something that I really need'. The worst thing about these types of business's is that they use the cheapest of components!!! PC-Chips motherboards!!!!! Don't you dare say to me that my systems are the same as theirs!!!!!!

The next pet hate is the phantom Operating Sytems.. We have all had customers come in and say that their friend is running Windows 97 and that they want to buy it. When you try to correct them they call you an idiot and go elsewhere!!!! You know what I say to that??? F#@k off elsewhere as you be looking for a long time for this bit of software !!

Next one, is the customer who wants to know why his CD-ROM Drive won't write CDR's. 'Nuff said.......

Next, the customer who wants the 'Athlium 3' processor or the 128Kb of SDRAM....Nuff said again...I had one customer come in and ask for a COASt upgrade for his FC-PGA Celeron as he had read in an old book that you 'need' a minimum of 256Kb of Cache for the system to operate!!!!!! No joke here guys & gals!!!

Then there is the customer who has a integrated system and wants to install a seperate AGP card into it. They buy the card first then bring their system in and expect you to work miracles and fit the card into it when their is no socket available!!!! Then they have the gall to call you incompetant as PC World said that it would fit!!!!

I could go on all day & night with this one, but I will let somebody else put theirs down.

I had the extreme mis-fortune to end up working as a tech in a PC World. it was a stop-gap (6 months) and I knew more than anyone else in there put together (well, just about). The tech centres are "swap-out city" they never bother trying to repair anything, just send it back.
I hate PC World, the manager was an ID10T, and most of the customers were a bunch of poor people who thought that a £299 pc was a good deal, then complained when it broke. WAKE UP!!!! why do you think it costs that much???!!!!!
I left because of 2 reasons, one - I got offered a job doing proper NT support (which is what I was doing before) and 2 - because I was fed up with lying to customers and having to sell cr4p. I was a tech, but had a sales quota. Unbelieveable.
My advice to you? never work in a DSG retail store. The majority of staff and managers are brainless, spineless, backstabbing, lying, cheating, conniving moronic muppets who couldn't install a printer if it cost them their lives.
What do you expect from a chain which sells Crappard Hel and e-Machines as the two main PC brands. Oh, and never buy a Patriot. Ever.
Oh - a tip 4 u - if u want to get around those freeserve screensavers in the store on display, and get to the machines, hit Esc then type 'DSG'. Usually works. This then enables you to see the machine in it's true light......
Not that anyone would maliciously hack the ini files etc........

listen guys, please don't do too much damage to the machines on display, half my workload was rebuilding display pcs, and if there are genuine techs in the store you sabottage, they wouldn't appreciate it. Just have a play with one or two, don't kill every machine! Please!

hmmm I wonder if i should pop down PC World tonight there is a machine I want to *cough* hack *cough* err I mean some prices I want to check. ..ooOO(ESC + DSG)

I have a good one for NT4 machines and it may work on 2000 machines.

Set the boot ini so it boot up in Base Video mode - /SOS
Then set the privilages to system only

MUAHAHAH

Watch as each time it boots it goes to 16 colour and then laugh even more as the "moron" techie try to figure out why they cant edit the boot.ini :)

To add - I have a m8 who used to work at PC world. It was safe to say his knowledge totaled more than his co-workers (if you can call them that) and Managers put together so I know how u guys feel. :o

ROFL - my m8 here tat work just said "Maybe I should work at PC World, I think I might send them my CV" (were are both looking for new jobs)

I dislike it when the customers have installed an odd theme, and then renamed everything on the desktop. For instance, My computer is a football, and is called "sdksd", My documents is an apple (named "Word"), Network Neighbood is a beaker full of liquid and named "Homies".

On top of that, they are usually using the "wingding" font for the icon text, have a horribly tacky background, and have about 150 icons on the desktop.

It is like playing a really bad version of Myst just to navigate the desktop. Myst is a nice game, but trying to figure out a mystery meat desktop is no fun when you are on the clock. Makes you wonder how they even use the system.

Had a guy today call and tell me the system i built for him wasnt what he wanted cus in system information it says genuine intel x86 processer and he wanted a 1ghz p3 and the chip i gave him is a 750 with a solaris adapter!!! Solaris...win98... WHAT THE F@$K?
where do they get this stuff he claimed he worked at a local computer place for a few years...as what the janitor? i asked him if he bothered looking at what the post screen says so he rebooted and quickly appologized... ID10T
