Hello techie friends. Was wondering what the biggest badest techs have stored under the metal casings of their own computers. Estimate how much it’s all worth at CURRENT market value.
Mine:
Athlon 700
All expansion slots filled
Estimated Cost: $1,127.63
Worth a lot less than when I built it and will be worth less tomorrow.
I try not to keep too close a track of what they are worth, with four machines and a ton of parts the depreciation would make me cry.

OK, I know MAYHEM has a similar topic, so just give me estimated cost of all your top of the line, out of date in 24 months equipment.
Don't want to know but over the past 15 years I have never started completely new. I upgrade/add something every few weeks just to keep up with what's going on (my two sons don't mind one bit when they get the hand-me-downs). I would guess that over the years this system must have had at least 35-40K sunk into it.
I spent $2000 building it and I bet its worth $500 without the 19 inch monitor.
Like the other guy said...it is depressing figureing depreciation!

OK, OK,Taking into consideration all my periferals (Speakers, Joysticks, three Intellinet Explorers, hubs/switches, etc.)and if you throw in the desks and other funiture, just for the computers, I ain't talkin' about my sofa.
I estimate the total value to be somewhere around... ... ... $10,000!!!! Oh sh*t, my chest feels like it's being crushed... I can't breath... the lights are going dim... someone call 911... are we there yet, mommy?... why, oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill... eck.

well My clear case Pentium 166 ought to be worth at least the 50 dollars that i have into the case other than that it aint worth squat

I've spent about $550 US on the components in my PC (The Beast III)
Most expensive component was the Adaptec AHA 1520 - $160 at the time. Next was the 4.3G hard drive, which I bought just this year for $75.
The monitor and Pro Audio spectrum I bought from a friend five years ago for $30 total (-;
It's a real Fred Sanford machine. Runs OS/2 very well, though, have I mentioned that? LOL

My computer & accessories are worth around $1,200. It's a real easy number to come up with since it doesn't really matter.
Of course, if lightning hit my house and blew up my computer I'd price it out a piece at a time for the insurance company(Including shop labor costs.) so they'd see it's cheaper for them to just buy me a nice new Dell PIII 800.
the most valuable part of mine is the creative dxr2 and 5x dvd, cost me 233 bucks new, now what, 80 for the drive, and who needs a hardware decoder(unless you're planning on watching on a tv.)
(i don't even need spdif out, i just use zoran soft dvd w/ my monster sound card, gives you virtual surround using uad speakers)

Thanks a lot for posting this topic. I just found out how much money went into my computer and realized that I pobably could have imported the Nissan Silvia I always wanted and installed a turbo kit, body kit, rims, and tints. Excuse me while I go cry.

I paid about $1300 for it in Feb,2003. I also have a 5 year warrenty with it that is transferable.
