what's the name?

I was wondering if anyone knows the name of the file in which past "search"ed files are stored.

Just for the standard windows 2000 search result.

( my dumb@$$ cousin was going through a bunch of porno sites :mad: ) and I had to search through and delete all the cookies and other crap that was accumulated.

you know when you type in a letter in the search result and it comes up with the last 50 files or so pop up that have been searched , I want to delete those so people don't think I'm a perv :)

When you goto options in IE can't you just delete all offline content and clear your history?

A tip for next time. Let your cousin use a different browser than normal. Like netscape or something. Then you don't have to worry about it.
I don't know the other file name...sorry.

no the offline content thing did not work the damn things still pop up in the search result window ( in searching files and folders ) esecially when you type in the letter "P" if you get my drift.

It looks like he tried to delete alot of it himself though

What about the button to clear docs,programs, and websites under start, settings, task bar and start menu >advanced tab. That should do it :eek:

nope still didn't work I can still type a letter into search and a scroll bar will pop up and show me what has already been searched for. damn I hate this petty annoying crap :(

What about disk cleanup?

no disk clean-up didn't help deleteing all the temp files. :(

Its stored in the registry. Pick a site from the popdown and then do a search for it in the registry. I am not sure where it is in Win2000.

You could aslo turn off the autocomplete feature.

Might try a disk cleaning software. I know that Evidence Eliminator does a pretty good job at removing lots of these junk files. ;)

In IE tools/Internet Options/Content Tab/Auto Complete/ Click "Clear Forms" button

Window Washer does a good job of cleaning everything out...just be careful with it.

oh crap I'm so freaking stupid you were right Macgyver I just used Regedit and erased some MDU files. damn that stuff was annoying thank you all for your comments and suggetions I learned a couple of new things today :)

you could try TweakUIand look under the Paranoia tab.

You did not confim that you had tried to clear the History folder. If you have not done so try it. Either it cleared my search bar (98SE) or it was a combination of Clear Forms under Autocomplete plus clearing History that did it.

This is what you are looking for in the registry:
