Win98SE/Client for Microsoft Networks

Greetings:

I have a unit running Win98SE and am trying to connect to a WinNT LAN. Problem is he Windows Logon keeps popping up instead of Client for Microsoft Networks. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Client, the 3com 10/100 adapter, and TCP/IP, but to no avail. I'm not interested in doing a reinstall of the OS at this point, but have come to the end of possible fixes for this problem.

Has anyone run into this problem before, and if so what was the resolution?

In the mean-time I will remove and uninstall the 3com adapter (3c905-TX) from the system, reboot and then go back and reinstall the adapter.

The answer to this may have been implied in your original submission, but I have to ask (just to make sure <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> )

Did you specifically choose "Logon to Microsoft Network" in the drop down menu of the Network Properties configuration tab, or does it indicate "Microsoft Windows" as the preferred method of logging?

Your assumptions are correct! What I've done is removed the NIC in Network Neighborhood Properties Box, Reboot, then reinstalled the NIC, applied drivers, and Tadah!! All is well. Thanks for responding!

*Amended* Well I am glad you got things fixed! I am leaving my suggestion just for GP...

There may be some registry cleaning required, as removing the Network properties (something you already tried) doesn't always clear up these problems.
