Convert a normal CD player to an Mp3 player? I don't think it's possible, however there are devices called MP3 CD players, which will let you burn MP3s to a CD and play it. And since it doesn't have to decompress the audio like it would do making a regular audio CD, so you can fit about 10 times the amount of music on there.
yeah i know that there is MP3 devices :D
but my friend says that the if i "somehow" change the software of CD player it is possible !!
he clames there is no big diferent betveen normal CD player and mp3 player except mp3 player have speciol software what normal CD don't have
i really don't know what to answer him but i feel he is wrong
Oh i see..converting a CD player to an Mp3 CD player...
well I still don't think that's possible :D as CD players can't really interface with computers. Maybe some electronics wizard can prove me wrong, but I'm just using my knowledge.
but i need to proof him that he is wrong
Tell him Jungleman said so :D
Seriously, sit down with him, look at a portable CD player, and look at each connection..ask him if it can transfer data through a PC and if so how is it possible.

Your friend is not completely out-to-lunch. Many newer household electronic devices contain a small amount of flashable memory which holds all of the preformatted routines and commands the device needs to operate (similar to BIOS in a PC). The memory is usually flashed at the factory and usually cannot be reflashed without significant knowledge of the proprietary architecture of the device. But in many cases the only thing lacking is an interface (like CMOS in a PC). There are some after-market devices available which will allow you to reflash proprietary flash memory, but they are usually hard to find and very expensive. A have a buddy who used to work with such devices in the Navy. I will find out from him an repost here.
CoNFoRTY Shalom,
To Justify the Above I will Explain something about MP3.
MP3 files are Encoded (and Compressed) Digital Audio files.
In order to Play this files you need a Decoder (Either By Software or By Hardware). And Obviously Processing Power/ Memory Buffer.
I think you should Learn Electronics and MicroControllers in order to "Transform" a regular CD player into MP3 Player.
- PLUS -
Even if you would succeed (which I doubt...) it would probably look like a Dr. Frankenstein Creation.
Try to understand - A CD player Plays CDs.
P.s. goto a computer shop - MP3-CD Player don't cost more than 200$ in Israel (Though i still love my RIO).
Hello Gabriel
where did you find CD player for 200$?
i can find it for 70$ in Raanana (That is place where i live) i don't remember which company (i think it's SONY)
well i think i've found nice proof to shut my friends hole
if 486 procesor can't play stereo mp3 how can 1-bit procesor (of Cd player) play it?
mp3 CD-player use 120MHz procesor (intel StrongArm)
to change procesor is posible but much easer & chiper is to buy new mp3 CD player of 70$
i knew i'm right :D
