Gateway and WinXP
Hello everyone, I have a client that has a Newer Gateway computer (not sure of the specs) anyway called me up last week and wanted me to come over and install some new software, (so I think ok no problem) anyway I ask what is the software, he informs me he went to best buys and purchased WinXP upgrade (urggggg) anyway just wondering how many out there have used XP and what I might be getting into as I pick the machine up in a couple hours, (I explained to him that I wouldnt do an "upgrade" I would reload the system) He currently has 98, Im asking because I had a freind with a gateway that had 95 on it and he did the same, went and purchased 98 to install on it only to find out he had components he needed gateway drivers for and ended up having to get his Win 98 from them and returning the one he had purchased locally.

Local media in Toronto are saying "If the computer is more than two years old, don't upgrade to XP because all your hardware won't be supported." Obviously this isn't entirely true, but basically sound advice. If he still wants to try XP, backup his hard drive first (or put a temporary HD in just to see if it will work)

Thanks for the quick response I will do just that, (install on different hard drive) and see how it goes, before losing all of his old operating system.

Just for a dab of encouragement. I've got a PII 400 it's more than a couple of years old and XP runs nicely on it.
Fingers X'ed.
Matt.

Update, WinXP found all the gateway drivers (boy am I impressed) anyway seems to be working just fine.
