WIN98 re-install problem
I have a laptop that has, (had) what appeared to be some corrupted WIN98 files. No big deal, let's reinstall 98 over the original. Be that it is a laptop and either uses the fdd, or the cdrom, I inserted the win98 upgrade and started it up. Everything was running along until "detecting devices" came along. When it begins, I get the Close/Ignore Msgsrv32 error has occured. I cannot ignore so I close and I get the Illegal Op of a GP in COMMCTRL.DLL. Close that and the window just sits there at 16 minutes and counting.
Interestingly enough, I can restart into safe mode and the whole thing boots right up without a problem (in safe mode). If I allow the install to continue (after reboot) I get the same error......
Any suggestions?

do you have nic or modem in or as a pcmcia device on the laptop during install? pull them, disable sound in the bios. disable everything you can in bios and pull out all you can(except video obviously https://forums.windrivers.com/) if you haven't tried this already. had similiar problem with 2k and onboard audio. disabled onboard audio it installed fine then re-enabled the onboard audio after install and installed the drivers with no problems. if you've already tried this then sorry for wasting your time https://forums.windrivers.com/

Thanks Thirdfey. I tried the disable bit this morning after reading your message, however I still came up with the same error. I appreciate your input. Back to the drawing board........
