I have been seeing a lot of these rounded IDE cables. I thought why no gently fold my IDE and floppy cables and cover them with black tubing? Anyone have any ideas if this causes data corruption at all???

I do all kind of crazy rollin' and foldin' on builds with no deleterious effects...
Yes, the lions got screwed on the TD, but the missed the 2 point conversion opportunity anyways, so...
You'll find it difficult to fold your cables, however you can do what I did - use an xactco knife and carefully cut the cable into several strips (6 or 8) and then use zip-ties to tie the ensuing mess together. If you screw up, don't worry. Ribbon cables are cheap. Make sure you use good solid plastic zip ties and not elastic bands or twist ties as they don't last as long. Presto, your own round-ish ribbon cables. Not as professional as the real nice ones, but hey what do you want for free? And it sure improves airflow through your case.

ive done that with all my cables ie power floppy and h/drive .......re: floppy and h/drive , ive cut them as suggested THEN put that clear cable wrap (the clear sort that u wrap around) .....available in uk from maplin in 10meter rolls (about £2.00) also power leads (main one and ide/floppy ones and all the leads going to the power/h/d and reset etc .....on the ends of the wrap ive put clear tape so they dont slide up and down. total cost about £5.00 (but enough to do about 10 PCs.
it would be nice if u could spray this plastic !!!. ....i think this lot has improved the flow thru the machine.

Just be a bit careful with ATA66/100 cables, there are twice as many wires in them and it's easy to expose a wire & maybe cause a short.
Also they have the extra wires to give shielding between conductors to avoid data errors from cross-coupling of the signals. When you roll the cable, two conductors could sit adjacent, so try to roll the cable a bit "crooked" rather than very neat & even all the way along.
Thought about using heatshrink tubing to hold them together? It goes on lose then you just use a heat gun (or your woman's hairdrier) to make it go tight... peice of pi$$
all u have to do is make a small cut inbetween the wires ans then pull it apart, that way u dont cut any of the wires or expose em.
Or you could just buy them at pcmods.com for $10us and have pro cables that are guaranteed to work at full speed.
Plus they come in pretty colors. :)

I did my own "rolling" ;) and then covered it with black tubing. Looks quite nice. Will post a pic soon!
I folded mine in half, then in half again, then I wrapped them in electrical tape, been holding up so far, been using them for about a year...
The 80 wire cables work fine if you split them the way Myramp suggested. It's probably a good idea to keep the wires paired though. 10 wire strands do the job nicely. :)

I love big Cases (full towers are my favorites), and cables are free.
No bonded, folded, rolled or any other malicious use.
It is easier to maintain and to deploy.
But everyone has it's own perfrences.
