Greetings Gurus,
I am using a Linksys EtherFast Cable\DSL Router Model BEFSR41. It's a great little router\switch! It permits remote management via the web.
Of course I'm on the "inside" of the LAN, I want to test my ability to access it remotely from "outside". I want to make sure it works before I go to work tomorrow. I have enabled remote administration using the browser-based admin tool.
Any suggestions about a site I could go to test this?

I always tend to ping either Yahoo.com or Excite.com if I need to check a Net connection.
If it can ping these sites with the minimum of lag, then everything should be ok.

I'm sorry, I worded that question badly. I want to test my ability to access my router from the "outside". I want to bring up my web-based administration utility from work.
Inside the LAN, I type the IP Address of the router, 192.168.1.1 into IE. From outside, I would type the DHCP assigned IP Address my ISP assigned me (I think)
I wanted to test access to the router from outside. I went to http://www.csu.net/cgi-bin/ping but received no response from my IP address when I pinged it. I guess I'll just wait till tomorrow & try it from work. Of course, I'm behind a firewall at work, so who knows......
I'm interested in any comments.

There are lots of online ping services available, here is another one that I found: http://www.fifi.org/services/ping
Obviously you have no way of knowing how accurate the results will be or even if the server can "see" you.

God help me if I ever really get Alzheimer’s! I probably just have seen you here a few thousand times! I didn't look at your post count.
I think my router does not respond to pings, so I won't get a response.
I'll just give it a try tomorrow.

if you want to check ports, on your lan, go to your web browser and type in www.myserver.org/portscan.asp
This site will tell you what ports it found to be open, you can also tell it what port you would like it to scan (for nonstandard service ports) at the bottow of the page.

..BUT errrm the point is that posts no matter how old 'live on' for reference ... How is Noo suppossed to bury it ? She could delete it !
This is more an issue about the boards software than anything else ... I resurrected an 'ancient post' myself not long since & got ribbed for my troubles :D ... The 'original posting date' needs to be made clearer that's all ... this happens all the time !!! I don't think we should be deleting threads just because folk are too 'daft' (no offence) to read the dates on 'em ..... :eek2:
NooNoo doesn't need to delete them, just close them to new posts...
