My download folder just hit 4 GIGS!! What about yours?

did i mention i just build this machine in the middle of december with a blank hard drive and i only have a 56k dial up?

Lead me to wonder what do the other techs download (at home), and how fast do they get
what they want?

out of the 4 gigs it goes something like this

Movies 1.2 gigs , takedown and gladiator
Programs um i mean demo software 2.4 gigs
security utils 300 megs
some of the other misc i stuff i download
certification practice exams,
hacking and cracking utils, (can be great for the forgotton password)
a little of every thing here for me. so the question is how much have you download, and how much space does it take? and what kind of connection do you have to the internet

My download directory is about 8GB large. The system was built this past November with a nice 45GB HD. By the way, I have cable service.

ever hear of cd-r's

I had to go out and buy a new 17g drive, then a month later I had add another 20g drive, then a week later I went out and got a burner.
moral of story- never advertise your ftp on IRC

I have learned a wonderful thing, its called delete or uninstall. I keep my home computer pretty clean and burn most stuff since I format my computer about once a week. I'm an MCSE2K in training so I have a new OS on a different computer of mine all the time and I don't believe in dual boot when studying. Why dual boot when you can just build another PC?

I am constantly clearing the folder to CD-R.
I d/l mostly updates and some trialware.
I find Download Accelerator Plus to be a pretty good program to speed downloads over a dial-up connection. It also supports auto-resume if the connection drops.

Right now,
about 5 GB, but that includes Games, and "trialware", also, programs that I host.

3.41 GB on a drive dedicated to DL's, 10CDR's and 3 CDRW on the go soon to be converted to CDR. 2.7 GB of MP3's, the rest actual files. Parctice test ect on seperat system, and on 2ndary OS amounting to 1 GB (MCSE + I NT4.0 on the go, to be upgraded to WIN2K)

Which Download folder?

Movies? 12GB

Photos? 2.5GB

Drivers and Utils? 7.6GB

Funny stuff? 1.5GB

Misc. 534MB

Have I over organized again? Sorry bad habits die hard.

Who the hell is General Protection and why is he messing with my comuter?

I got 2drives, a 4.3 just for Windows/office etc, and a 12gb drive, split in the middle. 4 GB is taken with Copies of software etc which I will burn off when I get a CDRW, and 2 GB with Downloaded stuff, some movies, and util progs. (56k Modem by the way!)
The other 6 gb has only 200mb free, and contains all my work, scans, and game installs. Man, I need to buy a 40gb drive which should last me a few more years!

Any good CDRW name to look out for.. i heard RICOH were a good make..?

A General Protection Error has occured - Time to go home...

All MP3's downloaded go onto the Linux MP3 server in the basement, it currently has about 9.2GB worth of MP3's on it.

Other downloads go to the download drive in the NT server, which currently has 8.25GB of drivers and software.

Most of it's MP3's. I'm a collector. I have an easy 10gig worth of them.

soory folks, but I got ya all beaten, come back when u have 25x10gig hot swappable drives full of crappy misc downloads that you cant be bothered to organise or delete "just incase theres something u need"
