I've got this emachine, that when you select shutdown, it will do a restart. Just before it does the shutdown, it will rapidly beep 3 times, then automatically restart.
I've installed the shutdown supplement, and it does the same thing.
I can not get it to shutdown, without turning the power off.

Also try different PSU.

Try disabling ALL power management settings in the BIOS.

I've changed the memory and PSU
The Power Management had already been disabled, as I set that up on all my machines I work on.
Still the same thing, it won't shutdown, it just reboots.

Also did you try disabling the fast shutdown registry key?

Sounds a lot like it's doing what a laptop does - go into that suspend to disk sleep stuff ...
Could be a bad motherboard too - I just had one of those Intel CC820's that has the memory hardware problem - did sort of the same thing - would shut down windows, i'd hear the p/s kick off - but, then it'd power back up (and, of course, not boot).
Willing to wager it's the mainboard though.

This may sound dumb, but check that the plug to the power switch is not upside down. I installed a cd-r on my etower, put the plug in upside down, and had a similar problem (had to unplug it from the ps). If the green led is lit, then it is plugged in right.

Try a different Keyboard. Iknow that shouldn't have anything to do with it but I worked on an E-Machine that was doing the very same thing.
I would very much like to thank you Grendel. We had an E-Machine in our store with the problem mentioned, only we couldn't get the problem to repeat itself in the store ( we used a store keyboard and mouse ). When we went on-site, the problem was evident. We tested their outlets, tried a different surge suppressor, and multiple software "fixes". All to no avail. I am glad to say that this simple answer was the right one. Thank You.Quote:
