PCI Serial Port Card
Hey Gang,
I recently had a customer buy a new system. He requested additional USB ports and 2 additional Serial Ports. The USB was no problem, but the serial ports are giving me grief.
I purchased a dual port PCI serial port card. The card installed fine, but I neglected to notice that my modem was using Com 4. Because of this, the port card assigned Com 5 and Com 6 to the physical ports on the card. Now no matter what I try, I can't get the port card to use Com 3 and Com 4. Unfortunately, the users serial devices will not use a port address any higher than 4. I know that this card generally assigns 3 and 4 to its ports.
I have tried removing the modem, hell I"ve removed all the other cards. I've tried a system restore back to before the card was installed. I have probably tried 20 times to remove the port card and reinstall it without any luck.
Does anyone know how I can make this work.

1. physicaly remove modem (PCI right or PNP that supports being com 5)
2. boot to safe mode, remove all com ports, comunication devices, modems ect.
3. reboot computer, if it dose not automaticaly detect the com ports mannauly start it. Winblows should decet the comports 1-4 if not, check to see if you can hard set the PCI card to 3 and 4. the repeat procedure.
4. after Comms established reinsatll modem, it should setitself up as com 5. If a PCI modem, it won care, as PCI modems are generaly winmodem technolory, and only fake the port to make everything happy.
hope this helps.
