New motherboard and CPU will not boot.

I just got a MSI 850 Pro5 motherboard with a Pentium4 1.9Ghz processor and 1Gig of Rambus Memory. The thing will not power up. I assembled the entire machine and nothing. I then started removing devices and still no boot. Finally I took the board out of the case and tried booting it with just the above items and a video card, still nothing. I know the board works, I watched them put it together at the shop and test it. They booted it up using a harddrive with win95 on it. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be wrong? The fans on the board and CPU all spin, but no post beeps or anything.

Is the memory good? Also make sure that the cpu is well seated.

Read the motherboard manual and make sure your memory is installed correctly. If you don't have four memory chips, make sure you install your C-Rimms This might work !

It all booted up at the shop when it was purchased. They installed the CPU and memory there and left it in the board. I havent touched either one. All memory slots are filled with identical RIMM's.

It's possible you fried the board while you were installing it in the computer case. Did you allow the mobo to touch the metal on the inside of the casing?

Are you getting the fan to spin up on the processer? Anything at all lighting up in the case?

Sorry, didn't fully read your above post. If the fans are spinning up, but nothing else, I'd reseat the processer and RAM anyways, trust me, it helps sometimes when it souldn't. Then, I'd make absolutely sure EVERYTHING is connected properly between the case and the mobo. If all else fails, take it back to the store, and ask them to test it again, to see if it got fried on the trip home, or during your install. If it is fried, maybe they will relace it.

The last thing I tried was testing the board out of the case, so it isnt an issue of being mounted correctly. When I get home I will try reseating everything and try it again. My guess is that something got fried, that was my first thought, but I wanted to see if anyone had any other thoughts.

I have had some SERIOUS issues with a computer at work lately doing the same thing. On the test bech it works fine....on the desk ....nothing! I don't know which one of these things was the problem but I fixed them both and it has worked fine ever since.

• A case clip was lying between the mother board and the bottom of the case
• the AGP card wasn't completely seated

I really think that it was the AGP card. I have found that if it is even slightly out of the slot, I get nothing.

I don't know if this will help you out but I do hope that it ends up being something really simple. :cool:

After testing a few more things at home I determinied it was the power supply. I took the settup back to the shop I got it at. They first tested the board and it posted just fine. I then had them test it with the power supply that came in the case I bought from them and there was nothing. They gave me a new power supply and I was on my way, no questions asked, didnt even need to show a reciept. This is one of the reasons I buy most of my parts from local shops.
