Floppy Error - (not me)
Guys (and girls)
I got a floppy disk that I need to get the info off, but when I try and read it, it says that it's not formatted..... Have tried some undelete programs (for hard drives) but can't get them to work on the floppy..
any ideas (running Win95, NT4 and NT Server over here....!)

I think usually your done for. Have you tried the disk in different drives to make sure the disk is at fault and not the drive?

scutterboy......
yep, i've tried a number of machines... no joy... just gonna bin it... never mind...
tried a few programs, re-wrote the MBR etc, but didn't do anything to help...

It's always bloody cold in Sheffield. I drive past a wildfowl reserve every morning on the way to work, 40 or so ducks and geese glare at me as I go by in my jumper, scarf and fleece. I swear they would have me if they weren't so sodding freezing.

Have you tried a scandisk on the floppy? Had a customer bring in a disk the other day that would not read--did a scandisk on it and lo and behold it read fine--hero of the day!!! I know it doesn't work often but obviously once in a while we get lucky. Good luck.

had the same porblem...upgraded the mother board and drive is fine. I suspect software (pnp) but could not find the conflict. I'd like to know the fix if you get it.

I know this doesn't help with your problem, but I just wanted to say that I've noticed anymore, I seem to get quite a few dead floppies per box, so anything I save to floppy and don't have another copy of somewhere, I put it on 2-3 floppies. Safety in numbers my man!
I remember when we used to sell a box of 10 1.44MB HD floppy diskettes for $38.00 Floppies were a lot more reliable back then. I guess when they cut the cost back, they cut the QA department back too!

I have no recollection of any set of words, that when grouped together, form a favorite saying!

Id have to agree with you on the lack of reliability these days.
I usually have to do a full reformat before reusing floppies due to the risk of data failure if I dont.Might it be the way Windoze 98/ME write/format the disks as Win95 did`nt seem to cause half as much failures or is it my poor memmory here? https://forums.windrivers.com/
