Bios doesnt recognize the mouse?

Working on an HP6640c,The problem is the bios does not see the mouse,tried every configuration that can be done in the bios,extracted a new copy of msmouse.vxd,tried to delete and reinstall com port 1,and the mouse ,checked every setting,the funny thing is the computer recognizes my shop mouse which is hooked up to a multi port switch .Ive tried different mice,scanned for viruses,no luck,even reinstalled windows(98se).Went to hp's website to tried to upgrade the bios,none are available. What is the solution to this problem????

Do something simple.
Check if the mouse is working under DOS. You'll need DOS mouse drivers to do that.

Does the mouse work in windows?
Usually you dont need to use the mouse in the BIOS, so no matter how many BIOS updates you apply it isnt going to change that.

Only my shop mouse works on this computer,yes in windows,but no other mouse works with it..all mice are ps2 connection,and works fine on other computers.my shop mouse is connected to a multi port switch which is powered.I have even tried a serial mouse..no luck.If my shop mouse didnt work
I would surely think the ps2 port was bad,,
what else could it be?
I have also noticed At bootup the bios Initializes my shop mouse,but not the others.

so neither the com ports or the ps2 ports are picking up these mice? thats a wierd one man, sounds like the controller cant power the devices, as you say the mouse that is powered works, possibly a mother board fault here.

Have you tried a mouse that doesn't work through your shop's powered KVM switch?
does the mainboard give the mouse the necessary +12v and +5v lines it needs?
Try an optical mouse and see if it lights up when the computer's turned on

Have you tried your shop mouse that works on the kvm plugged directly into the pc, instead of into the kvm?

yes,tried the mouse without kvm...doesnt work.
still stuck.Im about to try the system restore without the format with the recovery disk,I'll let you know what happens........

no luck on the system restore,tried a different power supply also, and a different hard drive..a serial mouse will work only if it gets pluged in after windows loads?????

Does this hp not have a usb port on it???

If you are still having problems with a possible faulty mouse port and the serial ports, then use a usb mouse to see if that works. If that works for you and yet the computer owner doesn't want that, then you might be stuck to installing an isa or pci serial port card and disable the com ports and ps/2 mouse port in the hp bios.

Your options are limited for this system.
Maybe the owner might want a different computer.

probably best off seeing weather the machine is under warrenty and getting a replacment board from HP. it might be worth a shot.

don;t get your head messed up with a lousy mouse.
just buy a simple USB mouse - they work perfectly.
