Soda Pop in the keyboard
we have a customer who says their kid spilled pop in the keyboard and obviously the keyboard is horribly screwed at this point so they bought a replacement and it worked fine but the mouse does not work now it gives the msg when windows starts that its not connected. The mouse has been tested and its fine. My question is could the soda have blown the mouse port?

I wouldn't rule out anything when it comes to computers. Have you tried a different mouse in the port?

I've only spoken to them on the phone. So I havn't been able to test the system myself. I guess we'll know more once it comes in. I was just wondering if it was possible.

Whoa, Lag
How'd you get that member number?
That's Cool.

Possible that the port has gone bad, but my exp says the keyboard port usually goes first. Have them buy a ps2--->db9 serial adapter, and call it a day. Hope this helps.

Just luck I guess. This was my only registration...Just happen to get it. I thought it was cool to.

it thought of the cables being swithched
i told them to check it before they bring it in. This definitely a weird one.

goto device Manager: Mouse: remove all occurences and reboot

9 times out of 10 with ps/2 problems, it is either the customer plugged the mouse and keyboard in backwards, or they didn't get them in the whole way!!!

I've dealt with the soda thing before, usually (if its not a cola) they can just put their keyboard in the dishwasher w/o soap and run it. Let it dry COMPLETELY, and then reinstall it. Worked for me every time.

I love when people want me to "fix" their keyboard. Hey, I will do it. Of course shop rate is $60 and a new keyboard it $10...take your pick.
By the way, I would agree that the customer probably plugged the mouse and keyboard in the wrong spot, as was posted before me.
