Just got a new SEAGATE 10G HDD and it will only make a partition of 1.6G! Why is that. I can fdisk and make primary and extender drives but I format "C" and it only see's 1.6G. I go to format "D" and the error format is not supported comes up, in the bios it only see's 1.6G too.....how do I overcome this?

You didn't list hardware of computer your installing in. Older computers often have limits on number of cylinders it can read of 1024 or 4096. however 1024 will allow 2gig to be used generally. Have you got harddrive settings in bios set to autodetect or have you got manually entered preset values alowing only 1.6 gig? Also have you tried seagates installation software?(latest version usually works best) The fact it won't format makes me wonder if it already has a partition on it set up on a different computer or set different from what your bios is puting it at. You might want to try a program like killit to remove all partions. Also seagates diagnostic software might not be a bad idea. P.S. Killit is a program writen by a professer at a local university here in Tampa Florida and well it seems to be well known here it likely isn't elsewhere. If you want a copy email me.

you need to use a win9x boot disk, fdisk and format programs, and when it asks do you want LBA support, say "yes". LBA supports large disks, otherwise you'll get 2gb.
if its an old machine that does not support LBA, partition the hard disk into numerous smaller drives - first create a primary partition, then create an extended. then, create logical drives until all the space is used up. reboot then format each drive.

Hi All,
thanks to those who responded to my post. I found the problem to be that the BIOS is that old it could only find 1.6Gb, had to use a utility to wipe the drive and let it auto find again and then change the cylinders and disks manually for it to work.
