You're probably correct on that.
Those of us who are wet behind the ears as far as actual experience goes are constantly aking questions. I personally rely on this site for info, entertainment, and a sense of community.
But i still think many of questions are from techs -- just from techs with less experience/knowledge than the tech gods... its gotta be more than 10%
I come here whenever I am stuck, and I have almost never been disappointed. People here will catch you if you're just having a brain-fart and can provide you with expert knowledge on areas you aren't specialized in. I also come here for entertainment and a sense of community, and to answer questions in the limited area in which I am an expert.
I would guess more than 10% but less than 50% myself, with regards to the tech questions, but 90% of the posts in the Lounge are by techs, I would say.
Heck, I toss up plenty of questions, and not just here. At this job and my last job I have a wide-ranging set of responsibilities and there's always something I'm poking my nose into I've never messed with before. :)
I'd say my question-to-answer ratio is somewhere around 1:20, meaning one in every 20 posts is a question rather than answering someone elses question. Not that asking questions is bad or anything. Often times it's good to ask a question even if you think you know the answer. That can help others having the same problem and will help confirm/deny your initial thought on the subject.
I'd be asking more questions, but all the ones I have are so wacked out and they should not be a problem but are...
Like my new ATA/100 HD, how were you to know that the problem was because the modem was shareing an IRQ with the Promise controller? I guess it wasn't Via fault this time :)
On those occasions when I find myself in brain lock, I use the search function. I think that in all my time here I've only asked a tech question with my very first post.
I try to keep my S/N ratio on the good side.
Many of my questions have already been asked and answered (thanks to all the brains here).
PS ... Sowulo, if you ever ASKED a tech question, I and many others would keel over from heart failure !
We all have in the past Jeff, and probably still will in the future as well.Quote:

I'm damn sure it'll be one I can't answer then!
The one I asked never was answered but that computer and all that it contained is ancient history now... :DQuote:

This is the 1,000,000,000,000,000 time I said it but :
Everyone, no matter how good he/she is, how much experience, certifications, professionalism etc... they have might sometime be in a position they need help, need a fresh point of view or advise.
second, even the most "newbie", unknown, amature tech might sometimes give you an advise or an idea that will help more than you could ever imagine.
learn what you can, don't flame, help if you can.
so Bottom line ? KEEP AN OPEN MIND
Like it says under my name, "Many Questions. Few Answers." Yes I am a tech, and yes, I'm good at what I do. It's just that what I do would seen idiotic to most of you civilians. You see I work as a tech for the military. I don't do things the smart way, I do them the way that I'm told to.
Many of my posts here are questions that I ask trying to educate myself. Sometimes I'll run across something I don't fully understand. This doesn't mean I can't do my job. 9 times outta' 10 I'll find a way around it and then come here to ask the question. "Hey, this is what happened...could someone explain it." I've found this place to be an invaluable source of knowledge.
Don't mistake curiosity for ineptitude. That's a mistake many make with me. I'm busy asking questions and they're thinking I'm not the brightest bulb in the box. Meanwhile I've learned so much through questions and experience, that often my knowledge surpasses my instructor.
Maybe that's how a lot of the people at WinDrivers are. Just thirsty for knowledge.
I've found that if you spend your whole day on windivers, you don't have time to work on computers, so you don't really need to ask for help!!!!!!
