Asus P2L97-S HDD upgrade
I'm trying to install a 40GB HDD in a system with an Asus P2L97-S mainboard. At the moment the BIOS won't recognise the drive at all.
I've downloaded a BIOS update dated 8/18/98, but haven't installed it yet. Will the 40GB drive work with this BIOS update??
Anyone know what the maximum HDD size is for this board?

If you donwload it from the manufacutrer's website, there is usually an explanation of what each BIOS update fixes. Also, are you sure there is not one newer than the one you downloaded?

The latest bios is available here. And he's right 3finger, he does have the latest BIOS revision. I have the P2L97 board and I seem to remember a notice from ASUS saying they were finalizing the BIOS for that series of boards and would not be releasing any more updates. I'm guessing the max size is 32GB, I'm using a 10GB with mine without problems.
That board has onboard SCSI support, I believe. You are installing an IDE drive aren't you?
If you want to use the 40GB drive you will need to use overlay software.
