I have installed W98SE on 2 different computers. Everything went good, till the final boot up, and it happens everytime I do a reboot! I get an ERROR Message! Message reads; Cannot import C:\WINDOWS\kak.reg. Error opening the file. There maybe a disk or file system error!
I've checked both computers and they have the file, when I viewed the file it was blank! One computer is a Gateway 2000, 266cpu, 128ram, the other is sultak MB 54 Amd k-2 3dnow, 350 cpu128 ram (dimm)
I just checked all the 98 machines on my bench. not a single one has the kak.reg file indicated in the error message. how big is the file? Try moving it to a floppy or remove it from the system and try again. It does not appear to belong there and there is no entry's in Technet for it.
Thanks for your reply! Be thankful that you did not find it, on your computers. It was the WScript/kak.worm.bat virus! What a bummer! But I think I got it all! Have a Great day!
Funny you should mention that. I just finished working on a machine with that virus. Does anyone know what it actually does?? Anything harmful?? I didn't notice anything wrong the machine except for 2 extra lines in AUTOEXEC.BAT that seemed to do something to the start menu !?
Hi guys, i also just had an encounter with this virus this month. It's like bubbleboy and spreads through Outlook express without being an attachment! On the first of every month it displays a message that the computer can not run or something to that effect. It attaches itself as a signature on all e-mails sent from an infected machine. I had to manually remove the thing as part of it had also corrupted. Go to www.f-secure.com/vir-info for more information about it or other viruses.

Gates had the audacity to state that the loveletter virus is an example of why Microsoft should NOT be broken up, because then the components would be dissimilar and the virus could spread much faster. Um, excuse me, but isn't it the very fact that the components are INTEGRATED that cause this worm to spread even FASTER?
Don't get me wrong. I think Microsoft should be left alone, just because I feel so strongly against the Anti-trust (read: Anti-freetrade) dogs in the DOJ.

VBS.KakWorm spreads using Microsoft Outlook Express. It attaches itself to all outgoing messages via the Signature feature of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer newsgroup reader.
The worm utilizes a known Microsoft Outlook Express security hole so that a viral file is created on the system without having to run any attachment. Simply reading the received email message will cause the virus to be placed on the system.
Microsoft has patched this security hole. The patch is available from Microsoft's website. If you have a patched version of Outlook Express, this worm will not work automatically.
