You will want to read up on HP's website concerning "HP CD-Writer Plus Drives - Is Windows 2000 Professional Supported?"...
http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/get_doc.pl?SNI=hpcd-write10789&L C=information_storage&Tfile=lpg40837
Basically, it says that the original software shipped with those units are not Win2000 compatible. They have solutions posted there...plus, lots of other good info.
Good Luck!

Install the ASPI layer for windows 2000 off of Adaptec's website. Should have a bit more luck with that.

FINALLY, Rocco HAS COME BACK to Win-Driverssssss......
Let the Boobies hit the floor
Roxio(Adaptac) does not have an aspi layer update for Win2k. Good ol microsoft decided that only their aspi stuff would work from now on and all other companies are basically screwed. I have the same problem with my smart and friendly drive now that I switched from 98 to 2000. Only something that is really strange is that my cd rom's still read about a third of my cd-rw's. The rest give me "This drive in inaccessable" errors. The disks are all smart and friendly cdrw's
i downloaded a prog to set up aspi layer ,,,,i cannot tell you where from , the prog is called "forceaspi" and it supplied by http://www.flexion.org/aspi/ ,,,,i have just been to that site and it seems that ataptec have claimed interlectual writes to aspi and have stapped the above distributing it i have checked aspichk from adaptec and it said my system was wrong ,,,i loaded this thru a dos window and its ok now
just found it ,,,,,dont tell adaptec!!!!!
its at the bottom of the page http://www.doom9.org/software.htm forceaspi 1.7
go for it boy!!!!!!!

Strange that the Adaptec ASPI layer works fine under 2000 if MS will only allow you use their own. Even works fine under XP.Quote:
