[RESOLVED] Audio CD's have static and skip

I've burned a couple of audio cds using Easy CD Creator 4 (one at 10x and one at 6x) and both have static and seem to skip. I'm copying straight from one CD in a CD-ROM to another CD in the CD-RW--no hard drive ghosting. (I have two CD drives.) I've copied like this before with no problems. The first time I used 10x burn speed with no test, and the second time I used 6x with the test. I can't remember what settings I used when it worked correctly. Any advice would be helpful.

Try extracting the tracks to the HD and then listen to them in WinAmp or similar. If they sound fine, then try burning them and see if the CD is ok or not. Hopefully this will point you in the general direction of the problem although it sounds like bad audio extraction to me or possibly some system noise...

Hmm....another thing that springs to mind is that some CD Audio disks are now shipping with some sort of anti-piracy thing that does introduce skips and pops into the track when copied. Hopefully someone here will be able to give a more credible description of the protection system than my rather feeble attempt above. Try copying a CD that previously copied A-ok to see if this is the case.

Yes, this is true as they have test shipped some cd's that have a cd protection wherein the tracks actually have "pops" throughout the entire song but they are recorded so well professionally you can't hear them. When they are burned to a new cd, not so professionally, you can hear them all. Are these mp3's that you have downloaded or is it cd-cd duplication. If it is the latter, your other cdrom may be too slow or not support audio extraction at the rate you are attempting to burn. I would try just one cd at 2X to see if it makes a difference. Also, I have seen some really bad media since the market has become flooded with "everyone and his brother" making cd-r's. I wouldn't rule out that possibility.

i had that happen to me cause i burned straight from a cd that had scratches on it, made all sorts of popping sounds, which scare the living crap out of you when you have them cranked up in the car, makes you jump big time
