I, too am a SysAdmin, on multiple platforms.(I also do the tech support since our IT dept only has 5 people including the director). It does seem like a fairly good idea. I would have to be focused more toward System Admininstration, however.
Who decides on what forums there should be? Moderators have leverage?
Scott(WinDrivers) makes the decision. We just have to see if more people are interested.
I think the current collection of forums are adequate. As a sys admin myself, I can post whatever question I have in the appropriate forum. If I have a misbehaving sound card, then there's the sound card forum. If it's a W9x workstation gone awry, then there is a forum for that too. And there's always the catch-all Tech-to-Tech forum.
I'm with MacGuyver here....there are enough forums that no matter what platform you Admin, you could post for help within that particular one!....Now if you want somewhere to swap admin tricks with other admins, than a new forum might be in order....however, I think too many forums gets to be too confusing!
That's a very good point. Clutter was what I was trying to avoid. If there was to be a new forum, it would need to be like "Admin's Toolbox" or something like that where you could exchange admin hints/tips/secrets/tools etc.
I would like a sys admin forum very much. I would probably spend the rest of my life there.
I am a sys admin for a small company, and therefore don't have the opportunity to do some of the things the big boys do, but I sure would like to learn more!!!
