I'm thinking about buying a novatech optical mouse for £15, but I was wondering if I would be better getting a M$ one ;)
Anybody got a *cheap* optical mouse? and do you like it?

Grab yourself a MS Optical Scroll Mouse for around £19. Believe me they are worth it over teh cheaper ones.
Logitech Optical Wheel Mice are under $15us. I don't know the exchange rate but shouldn't that be cheaper than £15? That is of course if they are available in the U.K.
I have always found mice to be mice what the big difference for ps/2 to usb to optical.
Optical is cordless Right?

No, optical mice are the ones with a red light on the bottom and electronic eye to track mouse movement, instead of a ball.
So which is better and why?
serial
PS/2
USB
Optical
Cordless
I have just switched over from the Logitec Wingman to an Optical wheel mouse, and I love it. The optical has no "dirty balls" that need cleaning :D its a lot smoother (in my opinion)
I love my Logitech USB Optical Wheel Mouse. It came with a USB-PS2 converter for those who prefer PS2.
Danimal to answer your question I've used mine in both PS2 and USB. It is faster and somewhat more responsive in USB mode, but not so much that it makes a h&!! of a lot of difference. It's much more smoother than my old ball mouse too.
:D
A Optical mouse sounds great I may purchase one in the near future. As long as they have the scroll wheel. I clean my scroll mouse wheel every couple of weeks.

Optical doesn't belong on this list. The rest are interfaces.

Serial is th eold connection, not being used much on new computers.
PS/2 is more new ang give better resolution.
USB is USB.
Optical mean that you dont have the ball in the bottom of the mouse that is bringing in dust and "schle". The mouse have no mechanical parts apart for the buttons.
Coreless is with out a cable from the mouse to the compute. you have a reciver connected to the computer thru PS/2 or USB but the mouse is free to go around the room.
Personaly I use the Logitech Cordless Optical and enjoy both worlds. It have a USB connector but come with a PS/2-USB adapter to plug it in any way I like. Logitech also have a Cordless Optical Desktop - optical cordless mouse and keyboard.

I have a cheap optical mouse that I hate. Do you still want to know? :D :D
sorry couldn't resist.. ;)
Seriously, i've heard the MS opticals are great.
I started with Logitech and haven't turned back. MS mice are pretty good but I think the Logitech give you the same performance for less money. I haven't used any of MS wireless stuff but Logitech's are really good.
I have an Intelimouse Explorer, and have talked many of my friends and family into buying one as well, not on purpose of course, as i usually don't endorse microsoft, but this thing is a dream, and it has a lifetime waranty, after they use my mouse they're hooked..
that's what happened to me, I used one at an internet cafe, and i had to have one.. :D
I have a M$ optical, and find it to be rather nice if you use a mouse pad with no design on it. I found that a design can cause a little unwanted "jumping" of the cursor.
