i recently tried getting a K6 3 500 but was told that they are now not going to be available until January 2000,
I would seriously opt for the 450mhz version because from the benchmarks that i have seen there is not a lot of difference, and if you have got a gigabyte motherboard, then you can overclock it to 500 with no problems, but make sure that you have got a nice big heatsink and fan, as it does get a little hot under there.
Is the K6-3 that much better than the K6-2? Just curious because I have put several machines together with the K6-2 500 and they run fine. They have a 2.2 core voltage and seem to run very cool with the factory fan and heatsink. Best of all they are readily available.

Speaking from experience, there is a difference between K6-2 & K6-3.
I had a K6-2 475 o/c to 504 (4.5x112) on a AX59Pro (Aopen) mobo. Now I have a K6-3 450 o/c to 500 (5x100) on the same board. When I did this, I told myself that I would not use benchmark programs until I ran a couple games and see how they perform. Sure enough, I gained 5-6 FPS on average in 3D games. The benchmark confirmed it.
In Sandra 99, K6-2 475 o/c to 504:
CPU: 1364
FPU: 580
K6-3 450 o/c to 500:
CPU: 1583
FPU: 615

Thanks Rave. I have never used a K6-3 so I was not sure. I remember reading a review where it was said that the K6-3 was worse with graphical applications than the K6-2. Thats why I come here, to learn! https://forums.windrivers.com/images.../2000/02/1.gif)
By the way I have a question that I am going to post Please give me you opinion!
