I recently installed Win2K. Whenever I put a Cd in either drive the light is on continuously until I remove the disk. I can read the disks, but don't know why the light remains on. Any guesses???

My HP CD writers do this by design, so you can tell at a glance if there is a CD in the drive or not.
They never did that before and you can hear it spinning until you take the cds out. It just doesn't seem right that they should be running constantly. But I don't get any error messages.
What is the make and model number of your CD ROM drive?
They are both Acers. the CD-Rom is a 632A and the CD-RW is a 1610A.
After you upgraded to Windows 2K, you noticed this behavior with both drives?
<a href="http://www.acercm.com/drivers/storage_drivers.html" target="_blank">Here </a> is the latest drivers for both of your drives.
As a work around you might consider disabling autorun on your drives:

Also, be sure to install the latest service pack releases for Windows 2000.
Yep. It just started happening. I'll reinstall the drivers and see what happens. I did turn off the auto start. What happened was that it did start to run any program but it did start spinning like it was trying to read something. The it stopped spinning after a minute or two and the light stays on. And I never noticed it do that before either.
I think the only service pack I have not installed is the rollup one. Unless there is another one that I missed.
