[RESOLVED] INTEL PENTIUM GUY ASK BIG QUESTION, WHATS YOUR DISKLIKES OR LIKES OF PENTIUM III

Well hello world, im sure more and more of you people are seeing me around this post/ chat room. If you have seen my post "Athalon Pros and Cons" your welcome to add anything to this post about "Pentium III" now. tell me what you dislike or like. here is my thoughts

I am not putting down any CPU (Intel or AMD) i'd like to know your thoughts!

I agree with you. Intel had always been my favourite.
Stability, quality, cool performance are the advantages.

The main disadvantage is it's speed, in compare with AMD.

Pro's

• Reliability
• Compatiability

Con's

• Price. Is still very expensive.
• Speed. Not that far behind the Athlon really but for the price, that is a different matter.

For my money I prefer the PIII over any other chip available , like I have posted elsewhere on the forum.

I have always ran Pentiums myself till recently built a Thunderbird Athlon 800
its runs really fast have had some trouble with it but its not the chips fault part of it is Windows itself isn't worth a nickel.Also the VIA Chipset has a few issues.
But I must say AMD did a hell of a job on the CPU itsself.P3's work excellent with Windows and chipsets that support it 810/15 and 440BX help make it more stable.
Both good Processors AMD gives you better pricing thast for sure Intel is very expensive why? I am not sure.

Pros:

it will run on a 440bx-133
SSE and SSE2 can be nice in the right situation

Cons:

Slower than Athlon
PRICEY (you would think they would have come down by now)
no good newer chipsets forthcomming

(personaly I love the athlons and have had nothing but success with them)

I like Intel for stability but I despise the company. I hate everything they stand for and the way they keep cramming crap down our throats. I swear the CEO of Intel went to "Bill Gates School of Buisness and Screwing the Consumer" It took years for AMD to put the pressure on Intel to bring the chips down to a reasonable price (still too much) and Intel is feeling it bad. They really need to give the consumers what the consumers want, not what they think the consumer needs.

Well lets start by saying that intel has been around for a bit longer, they started selling processors in 1978 with the 8086, if it wan't for intel there might not be an AMD. AMD has done well from many years backward manufacturing many of the intel processors, untill the release of the Althon. You may look and see that the Althon's are cheeper in price but also have some downfalls also. 200MHz bus speed but only PC100 ram, L2 cache speeds at 1/3 the core speed of the processor (much slower that Intel), 3DNow extentions (currently enhanced 3DNow) that are not comparable to Intel's MMX extentions (now SIMD or SIMD 2 with the Pentium 4) which is better for gamers and graphic artists (photo, video, and 3D rendering Intel can do it all better and I will pay more for a better quality product. What would you rather have the Lexus or the Caviler? In the Pentium 4's lets talk about 400MHz bus speed, Dual channel RDRAM that is FASTER the the buss speed not slower, and top speeds of 1.5GHz rather than the 1.2GHz for all of you "power" users. You know where my choice lies.

Must correct this.

Athlons = 100Mhz FSB Dual Data Streamed Internally which is where AMD get the 200Mhz FSb from.

P4 = 100Mhz FSB Quad Data Streamed Internally which is where the 400Mhz comes from.

Let me see if I am getting this right but.
1. 3DNow is MMX. There was some contractural stuff from when AMD made components for Intel. They were allowed to use the MMX extentions but not allowed to use the name. Add a few of their own commands and you get 3dnow! This I got from AMD reps. True or False I don't know.

2. Thunderbird... Full speed cache on chip. Duron... Do we need to mention the faster bus speed vs. Celeron?

3. AMD Microsoft patch for win95. M$ admitted this was their fault. Intel recall(s) of recent chips and bios flashes for flawed Pentium4 on platforms that they designed and motherboard chipsets that they designed.

4. Again I have to mention cost.

5. I can got buy a 1.2 Thunderbird right now. P4? Yeah right!

It's a given that P4 1.5 Ghz is b*tch*n fast, on paper at least. A lot of people have seen the benchmarks of the P4 before the release, but the BIOS patch required to get the P4 to something like stability also kills alot of the top speed. Intel shoved an unfinished product out the door to be able to claim the speed crown. In reality, the 1.2 Ghz T-bird is just as fast, $500 cheaper, and easier to get. Oh, and DDR RAM kicks the $h1t out of RDRAM. Once they work out the P4 I'll ggive it another look. Check www.tomshardware.com to find ou for yourself.

Well, I'll always like Intel Because they have wayyy better marketing (i like the blue guys) and they always seemed more stable to me they may not be but thats how it seems to me. I guess I'm kinda stuck on Intel, too. I've been burned by incompatibility problems using AMDs in the past. This forum has also shown me the troubles many people are having with all the newest AMDs under W2K and WinME. I'd rather stick with the chip that reduces the chance for problems...my time is worth more than the little difference in price and performance... https://forums.windrivers.com/

Intel pro's

What I spent on the processor, I saved on the motherboard.

AMD pro's

They keep intel on their toes, and stop them from fart arsing around procuring chips that are only 33Mhz faster than their predicessor.
