ive got no probs with mine mate, could be a mbr virus? try wiping your MBR using fdisk/mbr (i think) then start installing from scratch.
this happened to me before, worth a try
tried that, mabe I'll have to try it again, thanks
Is the motherboard UDMA working / and or supported. If you have a VIA based board you might to get a bus master driver update. I had an SIS based system fail to reboot after a successful restore the other day on a 20GIG western digital. Worked in safe mode. Rebotted if I removed the IDE controller from the device manager but froze upon restart again. Got an IDE driver update from the SIS and solved the problem.
Otherwise try switching the UDMA/busmastering option in the BIOS off and see.
Also if it's the only drive on the cable, you need to keep the jumper on pins 4&5 (default setting), DO NOT set it for master. WD Drives are tempermental that way.
just spotted this one http://www.windrivers.com/tech/tips/mar01/index2.htm .........evidently bill disables UDMA by default on 2k .........havnt needed to try it yet ,,,hope this link helps someone.
