System won't post
This weekend I gave some of my old equipment to a new computer user for him to use (I was going to melt the stuff down, but thought this would get more use <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">). I gave him a Gyga-Bite GA-5AA and another Jetway MB to use with a k6 266Mhz.
His brother installed everything properly for him, but when powered on it will not display anything. We're looking at it today here at the office, and even tried other vid cards...still not displaying. It almost sounds like it is posting the memory (the low clicking sound on the older systems), we even tried starting it with nothing on except the CPU and vid card (no memory). We don't even get the warning beeps that there is no memory installed.
Any ideas on this would be great, I've never had a problem like this before.

Are you sure its POSTing? If not, re-check the memory to make sure it's seated all the way (Some old boards will give you the click, without the memory being 100% right)..Another thing to check would be the CMOS jumper, make sure it is set correctly. If you can see under the MOBO itself, check to see if it's contacting the case in some fashion....

reset the bios to start and double check the memory like stated above and check the battery.
Is there any power getting to the board/PSU/fans etc....?

Of course the fans are running, that would be my first clue of something wrong there <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
The memory is properly seated (even if it wasn't it should still get to the BIOS screen)
BIOS was reset and cleared
Like I said, it sounds like it is posting, but I can't tell because it is not displaying, talk about a pain in the arse...

I would recommend You to use an old ISA card,
EDO SIMMs (if there are two SIMM slots),and non-MMX CPU (single 3,3v voltage P54C CPU). If after that PC boot,it eliminate the problem. You may have bad BIOS or fried voltage regulator - the most possible source of Your problem.

How about re-seating the CPU? Used to see this a lot at my old job. If you're sure CPU is seated corrctly (e.g. take it out completely then put it back in again. Either that or it could be a shagged keyboard controller (you said you tried it with out anything except VGA and CPU - does that mean you had no KB and mouse attached? If they were still attached, try unpluuging them both too). Failing this try using a different chip in same mobo. Then you'll know for sure whether mobo is buggered or if the chip is to blame...

Well I just had an older system that i rebuilt and found that it couldn't take EDO ram and that it will only take fastpage, and it made noise but didn't acctually get to post, another suggestion while this may sound stupid but is the CPU in the right direction, (pin 1 in hole 1)
any ways good luck!

some Old RAM modules used % volts instaed of 3.3 Volts most EDO modules used- so check the settings..
if the BIOS doesn't give a POST error when there no RAM installed I would consider Bad CPU or Bad Mobo (BIOS) everything else would result in a POST Code..
I'd suggest you remove everything (including IDE cables..) from your Mobo except the CPU - if it still doesn;'t give a post Code than it's most likely a faulty Mobo or CPU.

The fried voltage regulator sounds like the most likely situation. I know all the other parts are good, I've had them working in other systems (even this one) but there was a problem with the power at one point, so that could be the answer. Oh well, a K6 266mhz chip makes for a cool paper weight <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
