Do they work on another drive?
Other CD-ROM drives eg. my old Creative drive can "see" these disks.Quote:

Then, how about the DMA option? Is it enabled for the Asus one?
Is everything fine on the Device Manager?
The spec sheet here:
http://www.asus.com/products/Dvdrom/dvd-e608/spec.html
says your drive should read cdr & cdrw discs.
I agree with AlienDyne check your DMA. One other thing are these CDRs closed out?
Are they CDR or CDRW disks? Some drives have issues reading CDRW disks. The info isn't burned into the media as well on a CDRW disk. Because od this it takes a higher quality laser to read. Normally not a problem with new drives and I wouldn't think it would be an issue with a dvd drive but it's an idea. Other things as stated before: Check DMA and Close CDRs are good things to check as well.
Sounds stupid I know, but I've done it myself a few times - you have closed/finalised the disk haven't you?
One of the problems with earlier burners was that only the drive that wrote the cdrw could read it. Also some DVD/CD will not read earlier CDRWs. Get Nero and reburn.
