Having been an intel customer since my first PC, disliking the P4 because of cost and having to change the to rambus etc, I am now looking to purchase an AMD solution and wonder what the best board is? I would prefer one without raid, along with a TB 1.3mhz is there anything else I need to concern myself with, as I will be upgrading the machine. thanks.
I would definitely check for an Asus or an Abit one.
First of all, make sure your PSU supports AMD processors. It has to be at least 300W and AMD approved. You can check AMD webpage.
One other thing to get, is a very good cooling kit since, as an Intel user, you'll notice a huge difference about the CPU temperature.

if money is not an issue, abit or asus. if money is an issue, i have heard good things about epox and fic. you might want to check www.crucial.com for the ram as right now they are offering free shipping on every order.
I just read a review on the Giga-Byte
GA-7DXR, they also make it w/o the raid, It will support the T-Bird and Duron chips to 1.4 etc... and has micro-switches for overclocking.
The cheapest I have found it for was $181.00
im a big, BIG fan of gigabyte boards. i have never seen one RMA'd. i may have just been lucky, but im very impressed with the quality and stability that i have experienced. the ones we use are the GA-7ZX (i think), but for a little extra money u can get a slightly better version of the board. u might want to check out http://www.giga-byte.com

I am using FIC now and havent had many problems with it, as for RAM he's right about the crucial, great price and great quality
