Direct3D doesn't work, but OpenGL does

For some reason, I cannot get Direct3d to work, I keep getting this error:

HRESULT = 0x887602eb (unknown error)

I would say that it is a driver issue, but the weird thing is that OpenGL works fine!?!

I have reinstalled DirectX, and updated my NVidia drivers... And Yes, I am an administrator.
I am pretty stuck...

Hardware:
Dual PIII 733, 512 MB Ram
Windows 2000 Advanced Server
GeForce2 MX

i would try cahnging the drivers. which are you currently using? also which versoin of directX?

I am using The latest drivers, and I have changed them, I am also using Directx 8.0a.

As far as I could find, no one who has had this problem has conclusively solved it yet. (other boards)

I can tell you however, that other users with this problem found that the same computer worked fine in other OS's with Direct3D, so it probably isn't a bad card. It only happens with Nvidia drivers and Win2K. Switching monitors resolved it for one person, so maybe try lowering the resolution before running DXDiag - also, perhaps by setting the refresh rate in DXDiag to manually match your monitor?

Thanks Ron, I'll give it a shot.

This week I will be having the actual guy who does directx look at it (the benefits of living in Redmond :D ). If we are able to find a solution I will post it here...
