I just got home from work and went to open the e-mails that I sent myself. I sent a couple .exe files and a .com file. Outlook will not let me open these attachments. It says "Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments: "
Does anyone know of a way to get around this. I need these files and would hate to have to run back to work and send them as a zipped file.
yes, it does the same with Outlook when you install service pack 2.New safety feature that is unselectable as of the momment[thanks fo nothing MS].
The only way round would be for you to rename the extension as txt before you post then name them back afterwards.i dont know of any other maybe someone else has found a way to circumvent it.

Why does microsoft think they need to protect everyone from unsafe attachments. I think it is a good idea for alot of users, but at least give us a choice.

Outlook 2000 has a bolt-on security "enhancement" that prevents you from opening certain attachment types. Microsoft made this enhancement part of the core Outlook 2002 functionality. However, the company has fortunately provided a way to open certain attachments:
Start regedit.exe.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\O utlook\Security.
From the Edit menu, select New, String value.
Enter a name of Level1Remove, and press Enter.
Double-click the new value, and enter the extensions you want to allow. For example, entering zip;exe;url unlocks ZIP files, executables, and Internet shortcuts.
Click OK.
Restart Outlook.
