Hi guys the problem i am having is that i got a 16X yamaha CDRW 16X 10X 40X great deal .. but everytime i try and burn at 16X i get this underrun or underwrite error and it stops! what is this . i am buring from the HHD to not CD to CD !!! i am running a new AMD800 with new motherboard with 256 mem ..I head of these programs like burn safe or burn proof that can elimatate stuff like this do they work ? can anyone help https://forums.windrivers.com/

Firstly BurnProof is not a program but a function built into the Hardware itself. if your Burner does not have BurnProof built into the Burner then you will not be able to utilise it or take advantage of software settings for it.
Buffer Underuns occur when the data buffer of the Burner empties and cannot be filled at a nstant enough speed. To alleviate the possibility of Buffer underuns happening (this will not get rid of them completely),
- Defrag your Hard disk
- Turn off any screensavers & power management
- close all Systray programs except for Explorer & Systray
- Do not use the PC whilst the burner is writing the disc.
- Make sure that the Source & Destinatoin drives are on seperate IDE cables.
- lastly, if you don't wiah to write at a lower speed, purchase a BurnProof CDRW (the price on them is so low now that it would save you money is wasted cd's in no time if you are getting a lot of underuns).

what do u mean by that ??? you mean seprate the IDE (the gray cable with red line in the computer) ???? but i think that that one connects my CDROM and HHD if i;m not mistaken .. how can seprate them ??? i have a slot for the a drive ok now should i run a IDE cable from the CDROM and hardrive to primary and then run a seprate cable from the burner to the secondary slot ?
Hard drive on primary IDE as master and CDR on secondary IDE as master. The hard drives much faster at transferring data and the CDR will only slow it down being on the same IDE cable. If you are running as master and slave on Primary IDE it could be causing the buffer underruns.

Keep the hard drive on the primary IDE channel by itself. The speed of the cd-rom or the cd-rw will slow your hard drive down. Put the cd-rw and cd-rom on the secondary IDE port as master and slave, by doing that it will help speed the harddrive up. You will also want to make sure you have plenty of room on your hard drive for the disk caching that will be done while burning your CDs.

thats another problem .. everytime i try and enable DMA on my cdrw my computer becomes unstable!!!!i have all updated drivers for motheboard and CDRW ... i just had a new motherboard put in a K7S5A it does support DMA and also running on a AMD800 256mem ... this is whats happens when i enable it .... i click enabe DMA then click yes to reboot my computer reboot it does its post thing but then just before where the windows logo is suppost to pop up it locks!!!
There seems to be some issues with DTLA drives and this board. I don't know how this affects Yamaha CD/WR.

the plextor drives seem to run better to me on nero burning software.
Make sure your CD-RW is on microsofts compatability list for your OS. As windows states, if the device that you are trying to enable DMA for isn't DMA compatable, there may be stability problems. And since your computer doesn't even want to boot after you enable DMA for that CD-RW you have, it just may not be compatable with your version of windows to run in DMA mode. If your cd-rw is on microsofts compatability list, make sure your motherboard is.Quote:

Ok i have same CD burner and i've use easy CD creator and for unknow reson i cound't burn any thing 'till i ask my friend.
he told me that whit CD creator on win2k you can't burn anything and use NERO!!!
since i use it it work fine by me u should try it
