win.98-2,10gig hdd.,144mb ram,when i reboot it boots to dos with a warning,xms driver not installed,himem.sys is missing.i can shut down & then power back up and windows loads ok.

Have you checked C:\Windows to see if the file exists?
Seems like restart, is trying to restart in dos mode and using the wrong autoexec /config settings, but why its restarting to dos is a mystery.
had this years ago ,,,tried to play a game ,,,etc machine shuts down and runs in dos mode ,,,

this is driveing me nuts. im begining to think norton is the culperit.reloaded os 3 times,after i load the programs and restarts work fine .last thing i load is norton and get updates it startes the sos. :mad: :confused: :rolleyes: the second time i reinstall every thing norton locked-up on me and i had to start all over again because i couldnt uninstall norton.cleaned the cdrom lenz and flopy with cleaning cd & flopy disk.some think keep turning the a20 controler off.it`s all greek to me.
