I just bought an HP cd12ri...for lack of a better term, it's crap, NO software on the market will recognize the damned thing, anyone out there had any luck getting this drive to work? if so, e-mail me and let me know how, it would be GREATLY appreciated https://forums.windrivers.com/

First of all, check HP online support and see which CD-Recording software supports the unit.
Also check Roxio homepage and see which version of Roxio CD-Recording software supports it.

See that is the problem, HP does not even list my drive, Roxio says it only supports the 12 series D model, no others, nero cannot even FIND the drive, the only thing that seems to work for it is the HP software itself, and that is crap, won't do a bloody thing (No VCD, and little else in the way of anything other than data, supposed to do Audio, but it does not work well)

Sounds like you got an OEM "white box" unit.
Those are only supposed to be sold to system manufacturers, not the general public. You may have a very hard time getting any form of support for that particular product.
At a computer trade show, I picked up a CD that had a bunch of burning programs on it; Maybe one of those would work for you.

I "Was" selling the HP's til about 2 weeks ago, when we found out HP may be dropping the CDRW drives. I have sold the HP 12ci (12x) burners without any problems. They still use the HP MY-CD software. Check with the HP website and try using the software for that product family (12ci , 12xi, et.). I have run into the problem of having customer's download NERO or EZCD and it will work on older drives. But this is HP were talking about the "P" should stand for proprietary. Good Luck...

try the famous adaptec ez coaster, i mean cd creator... goldenhawk technology cdrwin , and clone cd, from elaborate bites,, search for the clone clinic .uk <<<<> the ticket cant say much about it on here it isnt very friendly to talk about burning cds te hee,, also try disk jugler.. i like nero for burning certain things everything else gets clone cd, you can save the image so if you want to do another no probem, i like my sonys and still have my ol quad speed panisonic, eaven xcdroast in linux supports it, works good for audio and overburns real good ....
