ME always boots in Selective Startup Mode

I have a problem with a Gateway running Win ME. The system wants to boot every single time to Selective Startup. I will run MSCONFIG, select Normal Startup, and it will boot fine once. Then the next time it boots, it boots to selective startup and opens the C Drive and the D Drive (both hard drives) on the desktop and shows the files. Whats really strange, is that C: and D: don't open until about 10 seconds after the boot completes. Any Ideas????? Thanks!

The machine is a Gateway, Athlon 650, 256mg ram, sound blaster live, Voodoo 3000.

I need a vacation!

Go and run MSCONFIG and uncheck Static VXD's and Environment. Reboot and see which if the drives still openb up. I had a similiar problem and eliminated it by uncehecking Static VXD's.
