Considering buying a Pioneer DVD-106S, which uses a UDMA66 interface, the same as my hard drive. Does this mean I can run them both on the same IDE channel without a loss of performance??? (SORRY ABOUT PREVIOUS POST, PRESSED ENTER BY MISTAKE)

Yes in the question that both devices will run at Udma2 66 and the bus will not lower itself to PIO mode like in CD-Roms that are not UDMA compatible.
IMHO with IDE there is allways a performance hit if you put more then one device per channel.....
Scuba has it right about PIO mode, but will this drive actually support busmastering. Cos if it don't you are using PIO mode like it or not and if it is on the same channel as the ide drive then that will slow things down, unless you have anything else on the second channel use that to be sure.
