I have an occuring problem where for (apparently) no reason, Windows 2K decides to add network drives to "My Computer" ranging from Drive I: to Y:. Drive Z: is the only network drive that should exist, but the other drives keep appearing and consequently cause all network drives to be unavailiable for network applications, although you can still access the drives through my computer.
Check if there is A login Script Runing on your Boot up...
if all those drive letters are drives, they're shared automaticly.
No scripts running... It doesn't seem to do it right away... I think that there is some background task, or hardware item that is causing this to happen...
And they are all drives, but all pointing to the same network share on the server...
I suspect that Someone is Playing with you...
I never saw that Behaviour Before!
P.s. By any chance is there a Novell Netware 5 Server around you?
Believe me, nobody is playing around. The client is getting really ticked off... Dell say's they can't help 'cause it's a "network" problem. "So why is this the only machine on the network that's doing it"?
I'm begining to suspect the Kodak Digital Camera that creates a new drive "G:" when plugged into the USB port... I don't remember the model number right now.
And no Novell Servers within 10 Miles of the LAN :)
Can you access those dummy-drives?
If yes, what's on them?
Which shortcut sign do they have... network? CD? something strange?
What info gives 'right-click, properties'?
what you're describing is actually a Windows bug. Service pack 2 describes and fixes this problem. Check the SP2 links on windrivers.com homepage. I think it might be on page 3.

The problem is similar to what i am experiences. I'm not getting additional drives mapped, but as to te screen shot i get mapped drives that show they are disconnected.

Well it didn't work... :mad:
And I have had the camera unplugged all week, so I can rule that out too...
I'm gonna call Dell again and see what they have to say... keep you all posted...
No one has mentioned this yet, and I kinda think it might be time to try a complete reload of win2k. It's very possible that you just got a crashed load somehow.....
This is a fresh install of Win2K... just got the machine brand spanking new from Dell...
