One ip on Cable

Okay, I got over for awhile with using one IP and two units with a hub.Both cruised the net and multiplayed half life da da da.My time has finally come to solve a problem.I changed out MOBOS and went ATX on one unit.I switched nics from 3c509b(isa) to Intel 100pro.I lost my network completely.My service is cox@home with a Toshiba modem(cable yes).If you need more info let me know.
Is there a software router available for down load so I can fool the ip or do I have to give up my new hub and go get a router?
I tried IPX as that would be the only Protocal I really need but that gives up the Internet.Then again after putting 60 hours in @ work every week I don't have a lot of time to rest so I can work on my own crap AGGGhhh!!!!

You need to decide what you want to do. You can have one of your computers act as a bridge, or you can replace your hub with a router. The choice is yours.

The bridge method is the cheapest. I would suggest that you download Winroute from tiny software. You need to put two nics into one of your pcs. One nic will be your cable modem nic, set that up with all of your ip information from the cable company. The other nic will be your lan nic, set that up with your private ip information. Hook the lan nic into your hub, and hook your second computer into that hub. Run the winroute software and tell it to run DHCP on the LAN side nic, then you're all set.

The easier, more expensive way is to buy a hardware router like the Linksys 4 port. Simply plug the cable modem into the WAN port on the router, plug the two computers into the 1 and 2 ports on the router, set both nics to DHCP, fire up your browser and punch in 192.168.1.1, configure the router with your cable modem ip, hit apply and you're done.
